Collection description
Fractal grids have represented a significant breakthrough in the study of turbulence theories thank to their peculiar properties. They indeed are capable of generate an elongated turbulence production region with a peak modeled as a function of the grid geometry. This feature is particularly appealing for many applications where the necessity of a high turbulence intensity level is an asset. The present research focuses on the investigation of fractal generated turbulence in free and impinging jets. The flow field, in both configurations, is experimentally characterized by means of state of the art Tomographic PIV. The convective heat transfer features are evaluated using InfraRed Thermography.
