Collection description

The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 has caused an unprecedent global social and economic impact, and high numbers of deaths. A good understanding of the possible risk factors is helpful for clinicians in identifying patients who are at high risk and require prioritised treatment to prevent disease progression and adverse outcome. In this retrospective multicenter study including patients hospitalised for COVID-19, the prognostic role of CRP and LDH at admission in predicting deterioration of respiratory function was evaluated. The results showed that both CRP and LDH at admission are associated with respiratory function deterioration during hospitalisation. Moreover a score composed of Age, Sex, CRP and LDH was also associated with significant respiratory deterioration. These parameters should be taken into account to choose patients to be prioritised for careful respiratory function monitoring and early treatment with specific drugs, in order to prevent a progression of the disease.
