Abstract

Human society in the current century faces major environmental problems. The consequences of it are the threats to human health and the ecosystem. To tackle environmental issues and stop further environmental degradation, Governments and policymakers around the globe have suggested sustainable consumption and entrepreneurial initiatives. Considering transportation and tourism as the most polluted sectors, I discuss the sustainable alternatives for these sectors in this thesis, namely consumer purchase intention towards environmentally friendly electric vehicles (EV) in Chapter 2, a model of sustainable entrepreneurial in Chapter 3, and sustainable tourism behavior in Chapter 4. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is employed to examine the collected data. Results reveal that environmental awareness due to COVID-19 (EAC-19) affects consumer intention to purchase environmentally friendly electric vehicles rather than heat engine vehicles. However, such an effect is mediated by rational (ethical judgment) and non-rational (ethical obligation to others and subjective norms) factors. The results of Chapter 3 indicate that moral and spiritual obligations positively and significantly influence sustainable entrepreneurial intentions, both directly and in a moderate manner. Moral obligation is the most robust predictor, while spiritual obligation demonstrates the strongest moderated impact. Additionally, financial motives prove to be significant predictors of sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. Similarly, the results of Chapter 4 reveal the substantial predictive power of injunctive and descriptive norms on tourists' sustainable initiatives. Personal norms emerge as significant mediators in the relationships studied. Additionally, social media rumors are found to be substantial moderators across all the hypothesized paths.
