Abstract
This thesis investigates the application of two innovative technologies —three-dimensional (3D) printing and telemedicine—in pediatric healthcare to improve treatment precision and healthcare accessibility. The first part focuses on implementing 3D printing in hospital settings, particularly in pediatric orthopedics and neurosurgery. Patient-specific 3D printed devices have demonstrated significant clinical benefits by enhancing preoperative planning, improving surgical precision, and reducing operative times. These applications enable a better understanding of complex anatomical structures, allowing tailored interventions for pediatric patients. The findings confirm 3D printing as a powerful tool to optimize surgical workflows and patient outcomes. The second part examines telemedicine in pediatric home care, focusing on patients requiring long-term mechanical ventilation within the “Guardian Angel” telemonitoring project. Telemedicine ensures reliable remote monitoring of clinical parameters, enhancing care continuity and quality while minimizing hospital visits. The project highlights significant organizational and technological improvements over the years. Both technologies were applied in the “Santobono-Pausilipon” hospital in Naples, Italy. In conclusion, 3D printing and telemedicine, as groundbreaking innovations, are transforming pediatric healthcare. 3D printing improves surgical personalization and precision, enabling safer interventions, while telemedicine enhances care accessibility and supports continuous monitoring, meeting the increasing demand for home-based solutions. Together, these advancements pave the way for improved clinical outcomes and patient-centered care.
