Abstract

The research questions guiding this inquiry are designed to explore how xenobiotics interact with, and cross biological barriers, since occurrence of emerging contaminants is increasing day by day and understanding their potential impact on human health and ecosystems, is critical. This PhD project aimed at: 1. Environmental monitoring 2. Biological monitoring, investigating correlation with disease 3. Developing method to investigate the occurrence of contaminants in different matrices 4. Studying the toxicity of contaminants 5. Finding alternative toxicity test methods. This task has been conducted in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University. 6. Finding substitute for preservatives using green technology. This task has been conducted in collaboration with Mater Soc. Cons. a R.L. company as part of fully funded project by NextGenerationEU (National Recovery and Resilience Plan)- SPOKE 2 – “green technologies and sustainable industry”. By examining the pathways and mechanisms through which xenobiotics navigate and penetrate protective barriers, this work seeks to illuminate the risks posed by pollutants, inform regulatory standards, and contribute to developing protective strategies against environmental toxicants.
