Abstract
The field enhancement in a structured dielectric sur-
face is a relatively unexplored area that has gained increasing attention in the last years. Moreover, it would be of great interest the possibility of managing
surface electromagnetic states, mimicking surface plasmon resonances in terms of spatial localization, high field intensity and dispersion characteristics, while avoid-
ing heat dissipation due to metallic substrates.
In this thesis the possibility to excite high Q-factor resonances connected to high field enhancement factors in loss-free media, such as photonic crystal slabs, will
be reported.
