Abstract

The work has the aim to provides vulnerability curves for Italian masonry buildings in respect to the seismic actions. To this purpose two approaches have been used. The first one is observational-statistical, and vulnerability curves has been built on the basis of data representative of the effective Italian buildings typologies. The second one is analytical and has the aim to show a method to built vulnerability curves specific for each kind of typology distribution. Furthermore it has the purpose to estimate the influence of some significant parameters, such as floors and ties, on the seismic vulnerability. This second part exploits the limit analysis to describe the out of plane behavior of the masonry buildings and a discrete element method to define the in plane behavior.
