Abstract

Europeanization has been a hot topic in the first decade of the present century. Europeanization of asylum policy has been inspected much lesser compared to other policy fields. This thesis aims at understanding whether - after the 1999 CEAS - there is evidence for an Intended Europeanization (IE) in the EU asylum policy through an empirical analysis. The main results of this analysis show that no IE of asylum policy is ongoing in the 2008-2017 period. Therefore, it has been investigated if a differentiated integration or a Differentiated Implementation are present and which one could affect the lack of IE. In spite of the presence of differentiated integration, it seems to not be the main determinant of the lack of IE. The Differentiated Implementation instead, seems to affect the lack of IE.
