Abstract
A subgroup H of an infinite group G is said to be large if it has the same cardinality as G, otherwise H will be said small. In this work, uncountable groups where all large subgroups satisfy a given embedding property are considered. It is shown that, within a suitable universe, the behaviour of large subgroups can influence the structure of the whole group, so the behaviour of the small ones is often negligible. Among uncountable groups, infinite profinite groups are also studied and it is observed that their structure is heavily affected by the behaviour of open subgroups, which are large.
