Collection description

Archimedes is a pure fundamental physics experiment devoted to uncertain the questioned interaction of quantum vacuum fluctuations with gravity, a profound topic in physics still unsolved 100 years after its first formulation. In this work of thesis the candidate explains the theoretical foundations of the research topic, the theory and the strategy behind the experiment and the progress achieved so far. A prototype of the final setup has been developed and has already reached the best sensitivity in the word for tilt and torque measurements, while the final setup is almost ready. During this work of thesis the candidate has been able to perform a pure fundamental physics measurement, aimed to determine if thermal energy contributes to the weight of macroscopic bodies.
